HUNTING

Hunting at Puhi Peaks has become a highly sought after experience.

Although many New Zealanders have the opportunity to hunt across a variety of properties, we continue to delight our customers who are both surprised and stunned by the beauty of the property and the extensive and varied experiences provided by a hunt on Puhi Peaks.

Puhi Peaks Station is the highest privately owned property in New Zealand, rising from 400m to 2600m and offers a mix of guided and unguided hunting, across an extraordinary range of topography that makes it truly unique.

A hunt on Puhi Peaks can if you wish, challenge even the fittest and most experienced hunters but also caters for those who are new to hunting or who want a less challenging physical experience. Deer, pigs, goats and the unique Arapawa sheep are abundant but wily, and we create experiences for single hunters, small or larger groups for either day or multi-day hunting adventures.

Hunting at Puhi Peaks is a key pillar in our biodiversity strategy and we gladly welcome all responsible and licensed hunters to Puhi Peaks, and those who are wishing to learn, as it is our pleasure to share our love and passion for taking care of New Zealand’s wilderness.

Sharing the Wonder of Puhi Peaks Station

The 8,000 acres Puhi Peaks Nature reserve incorporates over 2,000 acres of land that has been placed into protection via a QE2 covenant that sees this protected into perpetuity for the enjoyment of future generations. The native regeneration within these  blocks over the past several years has been spectacular, as we seek to protect, preserve and enhance the stations' indigenous biodiversity. The geology and ecology of Puhi Peaks is unique and the extensive range of biodiversity is quite outstanding. Puhi Peaks nature reserve is internationally renowned for its rare and endangered flora and fauna and is also home to the endangered Hutton's Shearwater, the only seabird in the world to nest in the subalpine at 1800 metres above sea level. The Hutton's colony at Puhi Peaks is one of only two remaining wild colonies in the world. Puhi Peaks is also home to the rare Oleria Hectorii tree, with only six populations of this beautiful tree left in all of New Zealand.

We gladly welcome all to Puhi Peaks Nature Reserve, as it is our pleasure to share these and other wonders with local communities, students, researchers and international visitors, so we can share our love and passion for taking care of New Zealand's wilderness.
